Smoke, Guts, and Glory: Vasiliauskas 🇱🇹 Conquers the ‘Ring

The 2026 Drift Kings International Series roared back to life this past weekend, transforming the hallowed grounds of the Nürburgring into a theater of smoke, screaming engines, and high-stakes precision. Taking over the daunting "Schumacher S" section of the Grand Prix track, the season opener proved that the bar for European drifting has moved significantly higher during the winter break.

The Venue: A Technical Nightmare

The Schumacher S is a section that demands respect. An entirely uphill battle, it forces drivers to manage momentum while navigating a high-speed entry that flows into a technical, suffocatingly tight right-hand corner. The transition from the right-hander into the subsequent left sweep requires a level of weight-transfer mastery that separates the elite from the merely talented. At the ‘Ring, there is no room for error; one missed clip or a lazy initiation sends you straight into the gravel.

Pro Series: Vasiliauskas Makes a Statement

In the premier Pro category, the story of the weekend was Andrius Vasiliauskas. The Lithuanian pilot delivered a performance defined by pure positiveaggression and tactical surgicality. His journey to the top step of the podium was anything but a walkover.

Vasiliauskas found himself in a heavyweight semi-final clash against the reigning champion and pre-season favorite, Gediminas Levickas. In a battle that many considered the "real" final, Vasiliauskas’ proximity and line consistency earned him the win, shifting the momentum of the entire championship race.

The final saw Vasiliauskas face off against Hungary’s Peter Porkoláb. Porkoláb reached the finale after an exhausting double "One More Time" (OMT) war against Roene Zuanenburg that left the crowd breathless. However, Vasiliauskas proved too clinical in the final tandem, securing a well-deserved victory. Levickas managed to salvage a podium finish, taking third and ensuring a strong Lithuanian presence at the top of the standings.

The Rise of the Next Gen
Perhaps the most discussed moment of the weekend happened during Saturday’s qualifying. Erik Lobmayer, the 17-year-old phenom who dominated Pro2 in 2024, made his much-anticipated Pro Series debut. He didn't just participate; he conquered, laying down the highest qualifying score of the day. While he didn't take the overall win on Sunday, his performance sent a clear message to the veterans: the new generation isn't just coming...it’s already here!

Pro2 and Queen Series: Excellence Continued

The Pro2 category featured a massive grid, but Cedric Luyckx remained the class of the field. Luyckx showed incredible composure under pressure, navigating through several tight tandems to claim the gold. He was followed by Adam Vass, another Hungarian 15yo youngster in second and Janis Spohner, who took a popular third-place finish in front of a home-soil crowd.

In the Queen Series, Sandra Janusauskaite began her title defense in flawless fashion. Sweeping the weekend and taking home maximum points, she confirmed that her hunger for the throne hasn't faded, setting a daunting pace for her competitors to match.

Verdict: A Season of High Tension

As the tire smoke settles over the Eifel mountains, the message from Round 1 is clear: the 2026 Drift Kings International Series is going to be a season of inches. With the technical level of the cars and the mental fortitude of the drivers at an all-time high, every round will be a fight for survival.
